My wife Kate and I were saddened to hear that Joe Onda of Joeu2019s Italian Cuisine (403 W. Grand Ave.) died unexpectedly on Easter Sunday. He was such a warm and loving man who was loved by so many he was definitely an icon in Escondido. Personally, one of my favorite memories was when he would give me a big hug at Smart & Final and ask me how I was doing.u00a0 The restaurant, opened in 1980, will continue on with family members in charge.
