Temporary disaster tax exemption available for damaged properties
Property owners whose buildings were damaged in the July flooding may qualify for a temporary property tax exemption. Gov. Greg Abbott declared Uvalde County a disaster area July 14, making eligible property owners able to apply for the exemption through Oct. 27, 105 days after the disaster declaration. To qualify, improvements to a property must have sustained at least 15% damage. The exemption applies only to improvements, not land, and the amount of the exemption is based on the extent of damage, ranging from 15% to 100%.
