ESPN and Stavvy Want You to Know ‘Football’s On’ in New Campaign
With the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in the books, we can officially say “Football's On!”
From now until February, gridiron action will be taking over our screens, with ESPN commemorating this glorious time of the year with a new promo campaign, "Football’s On," highlighting how much NFL programming and content it has.
Kicking off during this year's NFL Hall of Fame weekend on Saturday, August 8, the "Football’s On" campaign stars comedian, football fanatic, and huge Baltimore Ravens fan Stavros "Stavvy" Halkias trucking through all that ESPN has to offer at this time of the year.
Calling the amount of NFL content on ESPN “disgusting,” but he loves it, Halkias, in a 30-second spot shared with ADWEEK, parades the different types of offerings from the network.
Standing in front of a huge screen with multiple mini video boxes of ESPN programming, including weekly and daily football programs like Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Football, NFL Live, and ESPN Fantasy Football, Halkias touts the volume of it all. He mentions that this is the year ESPN will be the home of the Super Bowl and introduces the newest network in the ESPN family, NFL Network, which is also available on the ESPN app.
Lying on a couch, he closes out the promo by saying, “This is your life now,” emphasizing how viewers will be glued to their screens, with ESPN as the center of their NFL universe.
A new game plan
The "Football’s On" campaign is a new approach by ESPN and its marketing team in generating interest in its NFL programming and content. Speaking to ADWEEK, Curtis Friends, ESPN’s vice president, sports marketing, said this is the “biggest season ever for ESPN,” culminating with its first-ever produced Super Bowl.
Getting that message across in a fun, exciting, and relevant way was the biggest challenge, according to Friends. He said "Football’s On" was pitched to them by the Arts and Letters Creative Co. agency, and he and his team knew they needed a comedian to be the quarterback of that campaign.
Friends said they started working on the "Football’s On" campaign in the early spring and knew what they wanted at the start of the summer, including a finished script and a talent identified in Halkias. He recalled his first call with Halkias was “awesome,” with the comedian being the perfect voice to get the message across.
“We gave him a mouthful to say. Because there was so much to do, so much to say, and he came across with it flawlessly," Friends said.
Sports is a social activity
"Football’s On" runs through the regular season, reaching fans across ESPN social channels, linear TV, OLV, and the NFL Network. It begins its flight after a brief pause in what has felt like the summer of sports, which started with NBA and NHL postseasons, airing on ESPN and ABC. It peaked with the FIFA World Cup 2026 and ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon, and it is now transitioning into the fall with the U.S. Open and the start of college football and the NFL.
Friends says audiences are gravitating towards live sports in a way not seen in other kinds of entertainment because of its social aspect, and a goal is to keep the campaign fun, making it an open invitation for fans to come in and be part of something that is usually enjoyed live.
In coming up with the "Football’s On" campaign, Friends said it simultaneously tackled their challenges and objectives, which were getting more people to consume ESPN content, be it on the app or linear. And a launch at the start of the preseason was perfect timing.
“If you're an NFL fan, it's really hard to live without ESPN. And we love it that way," Friends said.
Super Bowl bound
As for the Super Bowl, Friends offered a tease for how they are going to approach it, saying that Disney has unlocked everything from a marketing perspective.
“It has just absolutely unleashed every resource that we can put at thinking about the Super Bowl and talking about it," Friends said.
According to Friends, over the next several months, audiences will start seeing more and more characters and ESPN marketing associated with the Super Bowl campaign, as ESPN rolls out the red carpet for the network's first time producing and broadcasting the Big Game.
