The Inspections & Surveys department of The Bahamas Maritime Authority is primarily responsible for ensuring that all ships registered comply with the applicable international and national requirements.

The BMA's Investigations department investigates marine casualties involving Bahamas registered vessels worldwide and all vessels in Bahamas territorial waters.

The role of the maritime affairs department is to represent the BMA in external bodies. Our main focus is on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
