In 2002, the Internet Society created Public Interest Registry (PIR), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation to manage, enhance and expand the .org domain.

The Internet is a global network of networks. Open, transparent, and collaborative processes, along with decentralized ownership, make the global Internet what it is.

The Internet Society is governed by a Board of Trustees that provides strategic direction, oversight, inspiration, and advice in support of our mission.
